Empowering the Voices of Canaan, Dorchester, & Orange

Ella Barrett for Grafton-9

Fifth-Generation Granite Stater & Lifelong Orange Resident

Fighting for a sustainable and affordable New Hampshire for all

Meet Ella

Community-Centered, Local Leadership

I’m a lifelong Orange resident, fifth-generation Granite Stater, and recent graduate of Mount Holyoke College running to represent the communities of Grafton 9 – Canaan, Dorchester, and Orange – in the New Hampshire House.

Growing up in the Upper Valley and attending school in the Mascoma Valley Regional School District taught me the importance of strong public schools, vibrant communities, and local engagement. The opportunities I’ve had throughout my life – from graduating from Mascoma Valley Regional High School to attending Mount Holyoke College and earning my degree in Politics and Environmental Studies – were made possible by the people and communities of Grafton 9 that invested in my future. Today, I’m running to give back to these same communities through public service and advocacy.

As a member of a working family, I understand the challenges many local residents face. I’ve worked throughout the Upper Valley community since the age of 14 and have seen firsthand how rising property taxes, housing costs, and economic uncertainty affect families across our communities. I know how essential it is to ensure that young people and working families can afford to stay, build careers, raise families, and put down roots here in New Hampshire.

At Mount Holyoke College I earned honors for my departmental research on New Hampshire education policy and public school funding. My studies reinforced what I learned growing up: strong public schools, affordable communities, and responsive local government are essential to the future of rural New Hampshire communities.

From advocating for the Mascoma Valley Regional High School renovation and speaking at local school board meetings to researching public policy and community issues, I have always believed that local engagement drives meaningful change. I care deeply about the future of our communities. I will work tirelessly to strengthen public education, provide meaningful property tax relief, support working families, protect the natural resources that make our State so special, and ensure your voices are heard in Concord.

I love New Hampshire and the communities that have shaped me. As a fifth-generation Granite Stater, I believe we have the responsibility to leave our communities stronger than we found them. I’m running to give back to the communities that gave me so much and to build a stronger, more affordable, and more sustainable future for the next generation of Granite Staters.

Fighting for Our Communities

Priorities

Property Tax Relief & Affordability

1

Rising property taxes, housing costs, and economic uncertainty are making it harder for families, seniors, and young people to stay in the communities they love. I support pursuing meaningful property tax relief by ensuring large corporations and wealthy interests contribute their fair share, while protecting working families from shouldering an unfair burden. New Hampshire should remain a place where everyone has the opportunity to live, work, and build a future.

Protect Public Education

2

Every child deserves access to a strong public education and equal opportunities regardless of their zip code. I will fight for a fairer education funding system and increased state investment in public schools so local property taxpayers are not forced to shoulder an unfair share of the burden.

Sustainability & Conservation

3

New Hampshire’s natural resources are central to both our economy and way of life. I support protecting our forests, lakes, rivers, and public lands while investing in sustainable energy solutions and growing economies to reduce costs and strengthen local communities.

Health & Child Care

4

No family should have to choose between getting care and paying the bills. Families across rural New Hampshire deserve affordable health care and accessible child care, and I will support efforts to expand access to providers, lower costs, and strengthen services that help people remain healthy and economically secure

Supporting Rural Communities & Future Generations

5

Rural communities deserve a strong voice in Concord. I will advocate for rural infrastructure, local investment, and economic opportunity while ensuring every resident is treated with dignity and respect, regardless of who they are or who they love.
